Nigerian University Union ASUU calls off strike

Many students has over the years been hunted by the nemesis of not graduating simply because the schools had been closed to students because a union known as Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU had gone on strike. I am a true Nigerian but I don’t represent the idea of a nation held hostage for months simply because of unpaid arrears.

ASUU was reported to have gone on strike somewhere at the 1st quarter of this year. The Union claimed that the Federal Government owe them a gagantum sum of 600 billion Naira (these amounts were said to have been the compiled arrears been owed by the government since 1997 or so).

Finally, it would be a good news for students of UNILAG, UNIABJ, OAU, amongst other federal universities in the country.

After a protracted debate, the Federal Government and ASUU reached a compromise during a negotiation brokered by the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar few days ago.
